Career

European and Nordic Studies programme will train you to become a critical thinker, who is well informed about European issues.

You will learn to do independent and creative analytical projects in a multicultural environment. It will hopefully also help you to grow more wise and compassionate in the face of our current societal problems.

There is currently a great need for professionals like this within the public and private sectors. The programme will provide you with the necessary skills and knowledge to pursue work in higher education, local and national administrations, the media, the European Union, Nordic regional and international institutions, non-governmental organisations, and the business sector.

European studies graduates from the University of Helsinki have begun careers for example in the European Commission, European Parliament, Committee of the Regions, European NGOs, College of Europe, communication offices, and associations promoting Nordic cooperation. You will meet some potential future employees, as well as alumni from our university, in the visits organised in the framework of our programme. You will also have the opportunity to complete an internship during your studies.

HelsinkiUNI International Talent Programme (HITP)

Would you like to build a career in Finland? Do you want to build professional networks during your studies and get valuable insight into Finnish working life? Then you should apply for the HelsinkiUNI International Talent Programme (HITP).

HITP is a group mentoring programme where Finnish companies and international students are brought together to share ideas and to learn from each other.

What will you gain from HITP?

  • Successful applicants are placed in a group and assigned a mentor from a Finnish company or organization. When applying you can choose which of the participating companies interest you the most.
  • You will receive support in growing your network among both professionals and fellow students. During the programme your group will meet 4–5 times on the company premises. Themes for the meet-ups include a company introduction and an overview on current competency requirements in that specific field.  You will also get to present your own skills to the company.
  • When the HITP has been completed, the goal is that cooperation can continue between the student and the company if both parties wish to do so.
