About us

INEQ is a strategic, multidisciplinary research initiative of the University of Helsinki.

It brings together scholars from different strands of social sciences and humanities, posing interrelated questions of recognition, representation and responsibility. INEQ is funded by the Academy of Finland profiling action, and by the joint effort of the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Theology, the Faculty of Educational Sciences, the Faculty of Science, and the Faculty of Medicine, as well as the Swedish School of Social Science.

  • facilitate development of new proposals to raise major research funding on inequality;
  • support the sharing and innovative combination of different kinds of data sets, methodologies and conceptual approaches in social sciences and humanities;
  • raise the quality and international academic impact of UH research on different forms of social inequalities and their interrelations;
  • build strategic international and national scientific networks for the INEQ –community and for UH in general;
  • produce multidisciplinary teaching modules that will widely benefit different study programmes;
